Sherwood Forest Moot
Shape the future of the historic Sherwood Forest.
With support from Michelle Welsh MP, Sherwood Forest Day has been recognised as an annual national event. We’re now heading into the third Sherwood Forest Day, and the focus has shifted from asking if it will happen, to deciding how we will use it to better care for the forest and the communities within it.
Sherwood Forest Day is marked each year on 20th February. From that anchor date, we will carry its spirit into spring and summer through the Sherwood Season – a programme of events and activities across the forest and its communities.
The Sherwood Moot is returning as a space where people gather around their care for their patch of the historic forest. Now we’re asking: how will we care for Sherwood in the year ahead – and what will your part be in the story of Sherwood Forest Day 2027?
When and where
Date: Saturday 27th June
Time: Arrive from 9:30am for registration, 10:00am start
Location: Calverton Village Hall, NG14 6SA
What makes the Moot different
This isn’t a talking shop. It’s about turning stories and passion into action, and into a Sherwood Forest Day 2027 that belongs to the people who live, work and play here, and to the wider Sherwood Season.
At the Moot, we will:
Look back – and then leap forward
Hear how people marked Sherwood Forest Day 2026 – from village gatherings and school projects to quiet acts of care in forgotten corners of the forest. Then we’ll use those stories as a springboard to imagine and shape Sherwood Forest Day 2027 and the Sherwood Season around it.
Reveal the plaques – map the movement
See where plaques have been installed across Sherwood and what they represent: living promises to protect, restore and celebrate this landscape. Together, we’ll map our “patches”, spot the gaps we still need to fill, and think about how they can come alive during the Sherwood Season and on Sherwood Forest Day 2027.
Ideas for your patch of Sherwood
Work in small groups to shape bold, practical plans for the coming year and for your contribution to Sherwood Forest Day 2027 and the Sherwood Season. That might mean:
- community conservation days and habitat restoration
- storytelling, festivals, and celebrating our forest icons and heroes
- creative projects – art, food, and local heritage that support our local economy
- youth led ideas that give young people a real stake in Sherwood’s future
- or something completely different that only you can imagine
Make pledges that matter
Each group, organisation or individual will be invited to make a clear pledge for their patch. By the end of the Moot, we’ll have a shared, living plan for the year ahead and a set of contributions towards Sherwood Forest Day 2027 and the Sherwood Season.
Who this is for
Come if you:
- care about Sherwood Forest – its wildlife, its stories, its people
- are part of a community group, school, parish council, business or project that could play a part
- are already doing something and want to take it further, or have never been involved before but feel a pull to help
You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be willing to imagine, to listen and to act.
How to join us
Places are limited so that everyone in the room can contribute, please book your place below.
Sherwood has always been shaped by the people who show up, from outlaws and foresters to miners, makers and people like you. On 27th June, we decide together what kind of ancestors we want to be for this forest, and what kind of Sherwood Forest Day 2027 and Sherwood Season we want to create.
