Just What the Doctor Ordered

A Macmillan Coffee Morning, held at the Major Oak Medical Practice, Edwinstowe raised in excess of £1,000 for patients in need of expert care in hospital and the home setting.
Countless cups of coffee and tea were enjoyed during a morning of conversation and camaraderie.
However, beforehand, a team of busy bakers had been honing their skills by producing a mouth-watering spread of cakes and pastries. Move over, Nigella Lawson and Mary Berry, the Edwinstowe bakers are now Queens of the kitchen!
An array of tempting cakes saw slimmers throw waistlines to the wind and slice straight into a heavenly, king-size chocolate cake. Lo and behold, Dr. Mikhail headed the queue and Dr. Gopi wasn’t too far behind. The double act of doctors certainly know the A to Z of cakes!
Bringing the community together for charity, the morning proved to be a real winner and at the same time supported a wonderful cause……..helping to better the lives of those who are not so well.
Helen Vick (Operations Manager) organised a fun-filled tombola, which saw most visitors leaving with a prize and a smile.
A red-carpet list of guests included the Deputy Mayor of Ollerton & Boughton, Councillor Raja Fazil, who enjoyed a cup of strong tea and said, “I would like to thank Macmillan Cancer Support along with today’s organisers and volunteers for bringing us together. An event such as this is not only about raising funds but also showing solidarity, kindness and help to people affected by cancer and their families. The work of Macmillan is incredibly important by providing practical and emotional support when people need it the most.”
Special guest at the event, Janice Dixon, donated a more than generous cheque of £1,000 pounds on behalf of Dixon & Young, vets (Ollerton). The supportive cheque came as an unexpected surprise and the giant charity cherry on a busy morning of fund-raising. The generous donation will pay for 45 hours of vital nursing support. Twiglet, her gorgeous border terrier, is Managing Director of the practice and came along to present the cheque!
Later, Jacquie Mikhail, Practice Manager, gushed, “Special thanks go to the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Raja Fazil for taking time to join us and Janice Dixon from Dixon & Young, vets for a hugely generous donation. Also, thanks to Helen and all the staff at the Major Oak Medical Practice for making the event a resounding success. Well over £1,000 was raised and still counting. This contribution will help Macmillan continue its vital work for patients and their families.
